Muskegon's population declined between the 2000 and 2010 census counts. In percentage terms, the City's population declined 4.25% over this 10-year period. However, since 2012 the City has experienced a rebound and an increase in population.

According to the US Census Bureau, the City's estimated population is still lower than the last decennial census.
