PRESS RELEASE
Outstanding Citizenship of the Year

Two citizens have been chosen as recipients of the 2014 Outstanding Citizenship of the Year Award. They are Andy O’Riley and Charlotte Johnson.

Andy O’Riley is described as a promoter, edifying, and trustworthy.

Andy, the self-declared “Mayor of Facebook”, leads by example and many people find his enthusiasm and dedication both inspiring and motivating. His humor, usually focused upon his own day-to-day antics, can put a smile on your face even on the worst day.

Andy is known as a long time popular radio personality in West Michigan. He is involved in No More Sidelines and participated in their large fundraiser, “Big Boys Toys of Muskegon.” He has worked with the Jaycees and Old Newsies Goodfellows of Muskegon County. He has volunteered his time at the Sandy Corley Memorial Run by emceeing their concerts and raising awareness/funds for cancer research. He educates others by speaking to them on the struggles of addiction and mental health by sharing his own personal experiences. He entertains the fans at the Muskegon Lumberjacks game as the announcer, has served on the Planning Commission for Roosevelt Park, and most recently he has been appointed as City Councilman.

Andy is a cheerleader for Muskegon. He never shies away from lavishing attention onto other deserving locals. What do his supporters say? “When Andy comes aboard to help with anything, you get all of him.” and “Andy has been able to help us by who he knows, while downplaying what he knows.” He leads by example and many people find his enthusiasm and dedication both inspiring and motivating.

Andy O’Riley’s is deserving of the Outstanding Citizenship Award not only for his continued contributions to the community but also for his heartfelt love of our community.

Charlotte Johnson is described as dedicated, committed, and loving.

Charlotte shows a great deal of love and dedication to the McLaughlin Neighborhood, Muskegon Public Schools, and the City of Muskegon. While many might choose to complain, Charlotte takes a different approach by living as an example as a leader and mentor to the youth.

During Charlotte’s years of employment with Community enCompass, she has served as Neighborhood Connector for neighborhoods; Manager of Sacred Suds Community Center; Coordinator for CATCH Camp (a summer day camp); and developer and founder of an After School Center for Academic Excellence and the Performing Arts.

Charlotte has an eager approach to life that serves her well wherever she works, studies, or plays. She seeks joy and hope in people. She is a quick learner and an incredible listener. Most of all, she has a passion to work with people who are in the midst of struggle to find a solution.

Ms. Johnson is a tireless hard worker who is committed to the Muskegon Community. She sets the bar high and refuses to let challenges and disappointments win. She is a motivator who equips everyone around her with a big-picture vision for transformation and hope. She is solution-oriented and an inspiration to all that surround her.

Charlotte is dedicated to our youth and community. She has and continues to strive to make our community a better place for our children and citizens by being a positive role model to our youth. Her hard work, can-do attitude, and dedication make her an exemplary citizen and a very deserving recipient of the Outstanding Citizenship Award.
