McGraft Park Temporarily Closed

May 8, 2018

Effective immediately: The frisbee golf course at McGraft Park is closed due to the danger from oak wilt, a tree disease caused by a fungus which is spread by insects through wounds, broken limbs, or root grafting in the soil. Oak wilt is deadly to oak species and causes a high mortality rate in infected trees. McGraft Park is a Muskegon heritage park located between Lakeside and Glenside Neighborhoods in which the dominant tree species are mature red and black oaks. The tremendous cost of remediation makes it critical for the city to take all reasonable steps to reduce the risks to the oak population. The course may be re-opened at a later date when the spread of the fungus is considered minimal.
