Public Invited to Discuss MATS Bus Routes

Input Requested as Part of Muskegon Area Transit System Route Study

Muskegon Heights, Ml – The Muskegon Area Transit System (MATS) will host two Public Meetings to gain input on MATS current bus routes and schedules. The first meeting will be a presentation-style meeting from 6:30-8:30 pm on Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Sturrus Technology Center, 388 W. Clay Avenue (MCC’s Downtown Campus and former Chronicle Building – use Third Street entrance). The second meeting will be Tuesday, July 23, 2019, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Herman Ivory Terminal, 351 Morris Avenue. All community members are invited to share to attend and share input.

Public transportation is vital to the future of the Muskegon region. The Muskegon Area Transit System (MATS) is currently engaged in a Route Study, which will help set priorities for transit service in the region. The aim of the study is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the existing transit network, and highlight opportunities for service improvement under various financial scenarios. Community participation is vital to the success of this effort.

The two public meetings are being held on July 22 and 23 to discuss ways to improve transit service in the Muskegon region. Whether someone is an existing transit user or simply an interested citizen, everyone who would like to provide comments is encouraged to attend one of the public meeting sessions to learn more about this study and to share their views on improving transit service in the region. Meetings will be facilitated by Foursquare ITP who has been contracted for this project.

MATS currently provides fixed-route public transportation on ten urban and one regional route in Muskegon County, Michigan, Service is available from 6:30 am to 10:40 pm, Monday-Friday, and 9:45 am to 5: 15 pm on Saturday.
