Due to erosion damage caused by the high water levels on Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake along with active construction projects on the Lakeshore Trail a detour of the trail will be set in place this Spring to allow users to continue to utilize alternative forms of transportation around the impacted areas.
The detour will allow for continued use of alternative transportation methods by utilizing a series of on-street and on-sidewalk routes around the impacted areas. Signs will be posted this Spring to direct trail users of the route and to remind motorists to share the road during the detour.
Repairs for the areas of trail damaged by erosion are currently in planning with hopes to implement during 2020 provided that permits and funding can be secured. The impacts from the other construction projects should also be completed in 2020. All of that combined should allow the trail to reopen on its original route late in 2020 or early in 2021.
