INVITATION FOR DEMOLITION AND SITE CLEARANCE BIDS

CITY OF MUSKEGON, PLANNING DEPT.

 

The City of Muskegon, Michigan will receive sealed bids until 2:00 PM on

Friday, August 11, 2017 at the City Clerk’s office, City Hall, 933 Terrace Street, Muskegon, Michigan 49440 at which time and place all bids will be publicly opened and read aloud for the following demolition and site clearance project: All structures located at: 1290 Wood – Commercial/Industrial, asking for two bids with details listed in the request.

 

 

Copies of the contract documents may be obtained at the Planning Department at City Hall on the second-floor room #202 or on the City’s website muskegon-mi.gov under “Quick Links”.

 

The project consists of demolishing the structure(s) per request details on the site, removing the debris to a licensed landfill and filling excavations in accordance with contract documents and city ordinance. This is to include the removal of any shrubbery/bushes/fencing on the property. Please refer to the City’s website to view the ad and additional requirements/information that is not in the ad.

 

Bid proposals should be placed inside a 9” x 12“envelope addressed to the City of Muskegon with the title “Demolition Bid” and the address of the site(s) on the outside of the envelope.  Bidder’s name, address and phone number must be clearly marked on the outside of the envelope.

 

Hiring goals and percentages are set forth in the Contract Documents.  No bid may be withdrawn within 60 days after the bid opening.  All work must be completed within 30 to 45 days of the issuance of the Notice to Proceed (the only exception will be approved by the City and the Contractor).

 

The City of Muskegon reserves the right to reject any or all bids or to waive any informalities or irregularities in the bidding.

The City would like two bids placed for the demolition project at 1290 Wood Street. This property has 2 (two) structures on it and the City is asking for a bid of demolition and site clearance with the details listed and then a complete bid to include the rest. The bids may be placed in one envelope. The City is looking to bid this to one (1) demolition contractor. The City would like to see the awarded project for the 1st building, including the listed criteria for that demolition, completed by September 15, 2017. More time will be provided if it is determined to include the rear building in the demolition and the additional criteria listed with it.

 

Information for the bid overall:

  • The demolition contractor will need to cut & cap the water/sewer & in some instances; the Water/Sewer Maintenance Department will need to gain entry prior to the demolition to remove any water meters.
  • Consumers Energy and DTE have already cut and capped the electric and natural gas lines.
  • This will include No-grow grass for the area that is demolished (structure and concrete areas).
  • The Contractor will be responsible for any lead and asbestos testing as well as the proper remediation and disposal. Please bid for the possibilities that appear or could be at the location based on the provided history. The City is not aware if either is located at or in the structure(s).
  • Additional information the City has is provided with this ad as attachments.
  • There will be no addendums added after 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017. Any addendums will be added as an attachment to this ad.
  • The wooden posts on the Northerly side of this property are to remain. They are not part of this property.

 

Bid # 1 (Front Building – reddish brown brick with holy roof) criteria:

  • Demolition of the front building – including any lead/asbestos testing as well as the proper remediation and disposal.
  • Removal of the chain link fencing between the front and rear buildings. This includes the fencing on the north and the south sides.
  • Removal of all trash, foliage & trees that is located in front of the building, along the side of the front building and inside the fenced in area.
  • Removal of any concrete that is located on the property in front and sides of this building. This does not include the public sidewalk or the drive approach as these are to remain untouched.
  • Removal of the concrete between the front & rear structure leaving at least 5 feet but not to exceed 10 feet on the westerly side of the rear structure in order to ensure the safety of the structure should it remain.
  • Removal of all the fencing (including any trees/shrubbery growing in the fence) including all the rubbish on the north side of the rear building.
  • Nothing more beyond what is listed above.

 

Bid # 2 (Rear Building) criteria:

  • Demolition of the rear structure – including any lead/asbestos testing as well as the proper remediation and disposal.
  • Removal of any shrubbery or trees along the structure itself and to the rear of the property.
  • Removal of the remaining concrete.
