AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT POLICY FOR ACCESS TO OPEN MEETINGS OF THE CITY OF MUSKEGON
AND ANY OF ITS COMMITTEES OR SUBCOMMITTEES
To give comment on a live-streamed meeting the city will provide a call-in telephone number to the public to be able to
call and give comment. For a public meeting that is not live-streamed, and which a citizen would like to watch and give
comment, they must contact the City Clerk’s Office with at least a two-business day notice. The participant will then
receive a zoom link which will allow them to watch live and give comment. Contact information is below. For more

The City of Muskegon will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing im-
paired and audio tapes of printed materials being considered at the meeting, to individuals with disabilities who want to
attend the meeting with twenty-four (24) hours’ notice to the City of Muskegon. Individuals with disabilities requiring

2023 Staff Approval Update #3 – Since the last update in September 2023 (but before the end of that
year), staff has approved eight projects. Those in bold were discussed with the HDC chairperson prior
to approval:

   -    561 W. Western – Rooftop air conditioner installation

   -    29 Irwin – Reroof house and garage/repair and replace soffit and fascia

   -    1267 Terrace – Construct iron fence with brick piers

   -    280 W. Webster – Replacement of existing wooden accessible ramp with a similar,
        composite ramp

   -    1285 Ransom – Replacement of damaged wooden privacy fence

   -    511 W. Clay – Install code-complaint handrail on existing accessible ramp

   -    1342 Peck – Replacement of damaged sections of siding with same material

   -    502 W. Webster – Reroof three flat roofs and replace damaged cedar shakes where necessary

SHPO Muskegon County Civil Rights Project – In 2020, the State Historic Preservation Office was
awarded a grant from the National Park Service to identify and study sites of historic significance to
the 20th Century African American Civil Rights Movement in Muskegon County. The project recently
wrapped up and Staff will share more information about an upcoming presentation to the Muskegon
City Commission.

Nelson House Update – City staff continue to work with Muskegon Public Schools on the project to
move the Nelson House. Staff wishes to update the HDC on additional asbestos testing that has been
completed over the past few months, the results of those tests, as well as next steps for the project.

Lakeshore Museum Center Letter of Support – The Lakeshore Museum Center is applying for a
federal appropriation through Senator Debbie Stabenow’s office for the roofs on the Hume House and
Carriage Barn and has requested a letter of support from the Historic District Commission. Staff is
seeking approval from the board to provide the letter, and a draft letter will be available for review at
the meeting.

2023 CLG Report – Staff will share the recently submitted Certified Local Government annual report
that was completed with input from the HDC gathered at the December 2023 meeting.
