MEETING MINUTES
January 5, 2017
Board Co-Chair, R. Mackie called the meeting to order at 5:33 pm.
ATTENDANCE: B. Arthur, K. Kolberg, W, Krick, R, Mackie, E. Simmons, B. Turnquist.
ABSENT: G. Borgman; excused.
STAFF: J. Lewis, K. Briggs, J. Paulson, H. Mitchell, and S. Ferguson
OTHERS: L. Jones, 2230 Miner; P. Gawkowski, 800 Ellis Rd.
MINUTES:
A motion to approve the regular meeting minutes from December 1, 2016 was made by
E. Simmons, supported by B. Arthur; unanimously supported.
OLD BUSINESS:
EN130182 – 1780 Jarman. (Nelson Neighborhood). – Linda Jones, 2230 Miner, Muskegon, MI
49441. L. Jones went over what had been completed. The board members and the Building
Official discussed the work that needed to be done and what would be needed to continue with
the rehab for the home and the garage.
A motion to table this case until the March 2017 meeting; provided that the owner work with
SAFEbuilt on a timeline for the repairs and to stay in contact with the Building Official of SAFEbuilt
and obtain the appropriate permits and necessary inspections to go with the permits; was made
by B. Turnquist, supported by K. Kolberg; unanimously supported.
EN1605341 – 2020 Lakeshore – Gawkowski Properties Lakeshore LLC, 800 Ellis Rd, Ste 111,
Muskegon, MI 49440. P. Gawkowski stated that he had just received a letter from his banker that
day to schedule a time to sign the documents. It appeared the appraisals came in better than they
had in the past. E. Simmons asked what the timeline would be for signing the documents. P.
Gawkowski stated that it would be about two weeks. The board members and Mr. Gawkowski
discussed the time it would take for the designs, if the same footprint would be followed as they
are currently, and what the end use would be. P. Gawkowski stated that they would be in the
same footprint but could not build a drive thru as they had wanted for Subway. There is a clause
for them to get out of the lease where they are currently at. They are looking at moving their
Subway location here as well as having offices. Once the documents are signed; he estimated
that it would take about two months for the design drawings to be completed and then they would
be able to apply for the permits.
A motion to table this case until the April 2017 meeting; provided the owner continues to work
with SAFEbuilt once the financing, designs of the work to be performed with an agreeable timeline
and permits; was made by B. Arthur, supported by W. Krick; unanimously supported.
