The Information Technology Department is the city’s central technology provider with two primary responsibilities:
Our first priority is to provide information technology services required by city departments and offices. These services include data center operations, network services, application development and maintenance, end user computer support, training and administration of the city’s telecommunications equipment and contracts.
Our second responsibility is to provide the vision, leadership, and skills that will enable the City of Muskegon to provide technological innovation and improved customer service to the community. By using the correct technology, we can automate and improve the services offered by city departments while making information easily accessible to all. Ultimately, more citizens will be better able to participate in government and make informed decisions.
The Department of Information Technology is poised to move the City of Muskegon into the 21st century. In doing so, the department must always exemplify careful stewardship of taxpayers’ dollars. Leading the city’s delivery of effective information technology products, services, and support will only be performed using this context. Technology for its own sake can be a waste of scarce community resources. The end result must lead to improved public service.
Our mission is both comprehensive and simple: Maintain the city’s investment in information technology while providing a leadership role in the introduction of new information management technologies.
