PARKS, HIGHWAY, HARBOR AND CEMETERY

SEASONAL BEACH EQUIPMENT OPERATOR:

($17.00 – $20.00) Performs a variety of facility and beach maintenance, repair, and cleaning duties.  Operates heavy-duty clean-up equipment such as a loader, dump truck, tractor, and attachments as well as various hand and power tools.  Heavy equipment operation experience PLUS a valid operator license with CDL A and air brakes endorsements required.

SEASONAL LEISURE SERVICE MAINTENANCE WORKER:

($16.00 – $22.00) Seasonal laborers needed to work in Public Works Departments including Cemetery, Highway, and Parks performing various physical duties including but not limited to:

  • Grass mowing, raking, trimming, and watering
  • Brush trimming and grounds maintenance
  • Restroom clean-up and field preparation
  • Road construction and maintenance duties
  • Roadside clean-up and catch basin clean-up and repair
  • Assist with special events

JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, authorized to work in the U.S. and possess a valid operator license with an acceptable driving record per the City of Muskegon Driving Record Policy.  Must be able to meet City’s hiring criteria by passing pre-employment assessments.

PARKS DEPARTMENT

PARKS & RECREATION CARETAKER:

($16.00 – $22.00) Parks and Recreation Caretaker staff for the 33 parks throughout the City of Muskegon.  This position will primarily focus on janitorial, trash, litter pick up, lawn care, and small engine operation, edging and mowing, weed whipping, shoveling sand, and clearing tree limbs and debris.  Other tasks will include painting facilities and picnic tables, lifting picnic tables and trash barrels, and driving secured loads on a light truck and trailer.  Assisting with Recreation Activities. Maintaining sports fields.  Must be able to adapt quickly and follow a schedule.  Must be able to work in teams in large crowds and have a customer service attitude toward the public. Applicants must be able to lift 50lbs. unassisted and must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.

SEASONAL DOWNTOWN SOCIAL DISTRICT EMPLOYEE:

($16.00 – $19.00) The position consists of cleaning and maintaining the downtown social district, large amounts of litter and trash removal along with shoveling and sweeping sand around the sand lot & Lakeshore Marketplace Chalets.  Must be able to operate a vehicle including a small golf cart and deal with large crowds with a customer service attitude.  May also assist with trash cans and picnic table placement for events downtown.  Must be able to work independently and in a team environment, Must be able to make independent decisions and work with little supervision.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, authorized to work in the U.S. and possess a valid operator license with an acceptable driving record per the City of Muskegon Driving Record Policy, drug screen and criminal history check.  Must be able to meet City’s hiring criteria by passing pre-employment assessments.
