The Muskegon Police Department would like to inform those persons who sell snow plow blades or have a business that parks vehicles outside with snow plow blades on them, that we have had two larcenies of snow plowing blades (from vehicles) since Friday, January 28, 2011.
This is a reoccurring problem every winter and in the past the suspect(s) have generally targeted retailers of plow blades. The suspect(s) will cut through fencing or other barriers if necessary, load the blade into a vehicle with a trailer or pickup truck, and leave.
It is believed that a pickup truck is involved in the latest thefts, and that there were several subjects at the scene removing and loading the blade into the suspect vehicle.
Please take extra caution to secure plow blades and keep the area well lighted to assist officers patrolling during the nighttime hours. Also, if you see a suspicious vehicle and subjects after hours that are in or around areas that sell snowplow blades, or businesses that have vehicles with plow blades on them parked outside, please call 911 immediately!
