  1. Bob Mersereau says:

The really stale dates (like March 29, 2009) should be removed from the events list. Out of date stuff like this makes Muskegon look bad!

  2. Renee says:

It would be nice if dates were included in the events calendar, instead of having to go to different pages for more information. There’s no date for the Irish celebration anywhere, and had to go looking for the Bike info.

  3. Kathy says:

Towns I have visited with beer / wine tents during various festivals: Niles, MI; Three Rivers, MI; Watervliet, MI; St. Joseph, MI; Kalamazoo, MI; just to name a few….

  4. dawn says:

I think Muskegon has worked very hard on changing the downtown area. As far as beer tents go. Not everyone gets drunk and it is a social thing more then anything. People must be responsible and I highly doubt beer tents cause alcoholism. I do not drink but I see nothing wrong in a beer tent. At least Muskegon tries to have activities etc. I think Jane Doe needs a dose of reality.

  5. Patricia Coyne says:

Where is your event calendar for July 2010?

  6. Tony Gaul says:

I Have been to your town at biketime and have found it to be agreat time with little to no trouble, your police do a great job with so many people there, I just wish my town would do something like yours to bring people and money to town. GREAT JOB MUSKEGON

  7. Rev. J.W. Washington says:

Will Muskegon be hosting the Tall Ships in summer 2010? if not can you tell me what port they will be visiting on Lake Michigan this summer/autumn

    • FountainB says:

      Rev. Washington,

It appears that the nearest port of call for the tall ships this year will be Chicago August 24-29. This link has more info: http://www.sailtraining.org/tallships/2010greatlakes/ . This website lists all the ports of call for the tall ships.

  8. Jane Doe says:

Of course Muskegon is the ‘beer tent capitol of the world’. It is the ONLY place in the world where there ARE beer tents! I have traveled far and wide, and have never come across anywhere else where people are encouraged to drive downtown, park, get drunk drinking beer in a tent, then drive home drunk. I find it difficult to believe all these people have designated drivers or call cabs. They drive to these things and they drive home when done. It is unfortunate the city puts the rest of us and our loved ones at such great risk as our police look the other way. This is a terrible example to set for anyone who may be interested in coming to visit our town, unless their primary hobby is to drink. Don’t we have enough alcoholics on our roads without encouraging more? I can’t believe in this day and age we blatently advertise ‘beer tents’ as a regular recreational activity. It’s time to clean the town up. Our reputation for drugs and alcohol preceeds us. Am I the only one who sees how wrong this is, legally and economically?

    • Franco says:

      @ Jane Doe
Apparently you have never been to Germany?

I actually thought it was funny that Muskegon claims to be the worlds beer tent capital, as I have been to many such places around Europe.

You never brought up your moral convictions, but I have a feeling they are a bit puritan. Beer tents make tons of economic sense, and are perfectly legal, your beef is with drunk drivers which I think we all have a problem with.

Maybe your time would be better spent working on some sort of free public transport to and from these events?

    • Muskegon Mike says:

Lighten up. A beer tent is no different than any other bar. Why don’t we shut those down too?

  9. Emily A. says:

I am new to the area and I was wondering what holiday park is used for. Are there soccer or baseball games there in the spring? If so, when?

  10. April D. Gaertner says:

We need more events, especially between October through April for locals and not just tourists.
