                             HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
                                   REGULAR MEETING
                                        MINUTES

                                            May 6, 2009

Chairperson J. Hilt called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. and roll was taken.

MEMBERS PRESENT:              L. Spataro, D. Mayville, S. Kroes, L. Wood, J. Hilt

MEMBERS ABSENT:               S. Thompson, excused; K. Panozzo

STAFF PRESENT:                M. Franzak, D. Leafers

OTHERS PRESENT:               D. Rinsema-Sybenga, Muskegon Heritage Association; D. LaBrenz,
                              City of Muskegon Inspection Dept.


APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion to approve the regular meeting minutes of April 7, 2009 was made by S. Kroes, supported
by D. Mayville and unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS/PUBLIC HEARINGS

Case 2009-04 – 561 W. Western Ave. Applicant: Muskegon Heritage Association. District: Clay-
Western. Class: AA. Current Function: Institutional. M. Franzak presented the staff report. The
applicant is seeking approval of a new sign for the Muskegon Heritage Association. The new sign
will measure 24” x 72” and will be hung using the brackets from the old Details and Design sign.
Staff recommends approval of the sign.

D. Rinsema-Sybenga represented the Muskegon Heritage Association. He provided some
background on their museum and described the sign project.

A motion that the HDC approve the request to hang the sign as described as long as it meets all
zoning requirements and the necessary permits are obtained, was made by S. Kroes, supported by L.
Wood and unanimously approved.

Case 2009-05- 637 W. Western Ave. Applicant: Fraternal Order of Eagles. District: Clay-Western.
Class: AA. Current Function: Commercial . M. Franzak presented the staff report. The applicant
is seeking approval to extend the 6 foot chain link fence in their parking lot, along the back side of
the lot abutting the ArtWorks property. Staff recommends approval to extend the fence.

A motion that the HDC approve the request to extend the existing chain link fence as long as it
meets all zoning requirements and the necessary permits are obtained, was made by D. Mayville,
supported by S. Kroes and unanimously approved.
