NEW BUSINESS

Case 2012-16 – 130 Washington Avenue. Applicant: Amanda Sorensen. District: Campus. Current
Function: Residential. The applicant is seeking approval to install aluminum fascia and soffit over
the existing wood. Board members reviewed photos of the house and discussed other homes in the
area, several of which had vinyl siding.

D. Mayville arrived at 4:14 p.m.

J. Hilt was concerned about wood damage and rot occurring beneath the vinyl fascia and soffit. D.
Mayville stated that could happen if the work was not done right. Board members concurred that the
smooth-finish fascia would be more appropriate than the “rustic finish” as shown in the photos.
Board members also concurred that painting the wood trim was preferable to covering it; however,
several members pointed out that other homes in the area were allowed to use vinyl siding, so they
were hesitant to deny this one.

A motion that the HDC approve the request to install aluminum fascia and soffit over the existing
wood as long as it meets all zoning requirements and the necessary permits are obtained, was made
by K. Panozzo, supported by D. Mayville and approved, with S. Radtke voting nay.

Board members requested that staff include a letter with the applicant’s Certificate of
Appropriateness, explaining the board’s concerns with the vinyl covering, and their hope that the
applicant would reconsider painting the wood.

Case 2012-16 – 511 West Clay Avenue. Applicant: Katherine Jawor. District: Clay-Western.
Current Function: Residential. The applicant is seeking approval to install gutters on the front and
back of the garage. Water dripping from the eaves has rotted the door. K. Jawor stated that rainwater
was running off the roof onto the cement, and getting under the wood sill. S. Radtke asked what type

of gutters she would be using. K. Jawor stated that she wasn’t sure yet, but that it would match the
home’s paint scheme.

A motion that the HDC approve the request to install gutters on the front and back of the garage as
proposed, as long as all zoning requirements are met and the necessary permits are approved, was
made by D. Mayville, supported by S. Kroes and unanimously approved.
