City Owned Vacant Lots

The City owns many buildable and un-buildable vacant lots in the City of Muskegon.

List of Vacant Lots for Sale

If you are looking to build a new home and would like to see what the City has, please contact the Planning & Economic Development Department at (231) 724-6702.

There are even some building incentives in place to purchase and build on City owned property! In some places, there may even be some tax breaks available!

The buildable lots start at $1,650 and increase depending on the size of the property. The selling price is 25% of the True Cash Value in Nelson Neighborhood, 55% in Jackson Hill, McLaughlin, and Angell Neighborhoods with the remaining neighborhoods being 75%.  We have a list of the buildable lots, dimensions, and price. You may click on the links below to find more information. For those of you that have family or friends that would like to move into the City of Muskegon and just have not found that right home, mention to them that the City has some property that they can purchase and build their dream home on. For those of you that live next to an unbuildable lot owned by the City, we still have the $1 lot policy in effect. Don’t hesitate to call; you will not want to miss any opportunities that the City may have to help revitalize the neighborhoods.

There are requirements for homes that are built on property purchased from the City. Please read the Policy for Sale of City-Owned Residential Property and anything that is not addressed in the policy, goes by what is in our Zoning Ordinance under Section 2319 (Residential Design Criteria).
