Fisherman’s Landing

Fisherman’s Landing is geared towards the large sports fishing industry. The parking lot for 250 vehicles contains oversize spaces to accommodate both car and trailer. In time, it is planned to be a self-supporting tourist facility for regional usage. There is a special handicapped lift for boaters and a dry storage area for sailboats.

Today's Cool Muskegon Fact
Jonathan Walker (1799 - 1878), aka "The Man with the Branded Hand", was an American reformer who became a national hero in 1844 when he was tried and sentenced as a slave stealer following his attempt to help seven runaway slaves find freedom. Walker was convicted, sentenced to be heavily fined, put on the pillory, and branded on his right hand with a hot iron with the letters "S. S." for "slave-stealer". But to many he was "slave savior". After his release, he lectured on slavery in the northern and western states. He moved to Michigan about 1850, living in Muskegon until his death. A monument erected to his memory on August 1, 1878 still stands in Muskegon's Evergreen Cemetery
