SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION MEETING

APRIL 4, 2000

MINUTES

 

The special meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Mayor Nielsen. Also present were Vice Mayor Sieradzki, Commissioners Schweifler, Shepherd, Spataro, and Aslakson. Commissioner Benedict was excused.

  1. To renew the motion to contract seasonal work with Manpower.

Motion by Aslakson, supported by Spataro, to approve the contract with Manpower for seasonal workers.

Motion by Aslakson, supported by Spataro, to amend the original motion to include the following:

    1. Employees on the recall list, if they pass the Manpower test and can do the work, will be offered placement at the City at the same rate of pay as last year, less the amount of union dues.
    2. Employees on the recall list who apply to Manpower by April 17, 2000, and accept placement at the City shall retain the same promotional rights through December 31, 2000, as if the employee was a seasonal employee.
    3. If the contract with Manpower is extended through December 31, 2001, items 1 and 2 shall be extended with no further negotiation between City and SEIU required.
    4. City shall pay SEIU a one-time fee of $1,000 to cover lost union dues.

Vote: 5 Yeas 1 Nay (Nielsen) Motion Passes

 

Mayor Nielsen mentioned that the city should prepare a resolution for Michigan State University regarding their win. He would like it signed and mailed out very soon.

Motion by Commissioner Shepherd to adjourn at 6:04 p.m.
