Street Lighting SystemThe City of Muskegon contracts with Consumers Power Company for street lighting services throughout the city. Streetlights are installed, maintained and powered by Consumers. As of September 1995 there are approximately 3,100 streetlights in our system. Street lighting outages.Outages may be reported to the Department of Public Works at 724-4100 any workday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. These are faxed directly to the local office of Consumers Power every Monday. You may also call Consumers Power directly at 1-800-477-5050 or fill out a form on their website, www.consumersenergy.com. Most outages are handled within about two weeks, if repairs are not completed within that time please give Consumers Energy a call. New Street lighting requests.Requests for new streetlights are also handled by the Department of Public Works. Requests are reviewed against accepted engineering standards for street lighting. Streetlights are designed to insure the safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians in the roadway. Streetlights will not be installed as a deterrent to crime or to light up a non-roadway area. Parks and parking lot requests for lighting are handled by the Leisure Services Department at 724-6704. |
