City of Muskegon New Website

August 23, 2009

Looking for contact information? You’ll find it located on the City of Muskegon Departments page.

This section is for those that would like to leave a comment or suggestion for the new site. If you would like to remain anonymous, simply enter anonymous for the name and anonymous@postman.org for the email.

We have been working very hard during the last six months on converting our old website to a new site based on the most popular Content Management System on the market today, WordPress. This new CMS allows citizens to become more involved while at the same time automating costly processes and reducing the time spent on publishing content.

As this website grows, we’ll be correcting errors and omissions that can escape even the most detailed testing.

Should you find something missing, an error or have an idea for something new, please, by all means, leave a comment and let us know.

We look forward to hearing from you!

We are planning on going to Michigan Adventures on Saturday but Im not sure what is available for friday night and sunday morning. I tried looking on your website for ideas but I couldnt find anything too helpful. If you could please email me some ideas I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, and we look forward to visiting your wonderful city!

Why don’t we show off our sister cities on the city limits sign like most places do?

Do I need to bring anything other than bags to pick up my dogs droppings to go to the dog park part of the beach? Do I need a leash, registration, etc? Just wondering so we can plan on bringing everything when we drive there next weekend. Thank you

    • Mike says:

Owners must bring pooper scooper device such as a bag etc and have them with them at all times.

A leash is required until they get through the snow fence at the bottom of the stairs. Once they have past the snow fence they can go off the leash.

The dog must be licensed if animal control stops them. Dangerous dogs such as pit bulls must be muzzled.

I am just letting you know that when the garbage man picks up our trash he leaves the cans in the street and knocked over where someone could run over them. They also spilled out the trash across the street and left it on the ground. An old lady lives there. Please, if someone could address this, I would appreciate it. If they would just take it a little slower. Thank you so much.

Was down to Bronson Beach this weekend and was appalled by the amount of garbage on the beach. Since there are no garbage containers on the beach anymore, people have opted to just leave their garbage. I realize that we have a budget problem and that the city is finding ways to save money; however, we are giving up our beautiful beaches to trash in order to save money.

I read a post above where someone volunteered to monitor the beach situation. I think that is a wonderful idea. Why not have teenage volunteers to monitor the beach situation, pick up trash, life guards, etc. in exchange for possible college credits at MCC, scholarships or something along those lines … sort of a barter system. It would put teenagers to work, help out our beautiful shoreline and save the taxpayers money.

I will bring a garbage bag with me to the beach from now on and do my part to help preserve our most precious commodity. Thanks!

Who says pit bulls are dangerous? I have two and they absolutely do not need to be muzzled. Is Muskegon not the place for us to come visit because that sounds awfully ridiculous. Why don’t you say Rotweilers or Doberman pinchers? If my dogs is not “dangerous” then can they not be muzzled? Wow, that makes me kind of upset and want to talk to someone higher in the city of Muskegon. What the…..

    Mike,
Can I purchase a boat launch permit online? Or are snail mail and/or in person the only choices? Also wondering, does the term “resident” mean Michigan resident or Muskegon city resident when it comes to the 10 dollar price difference?
    Thanks!

    • Mike says:

Right now they can only be purchases in person or snail mail, we hope to have an online option in the near future. The resident term applies to City of Muskegon resident.

Why put comments on this web site if they don’t get answered?? I asked back on 6-1-10 about the cemeteries and still no response??!!!

  11. Anita Rooney says:

Gentlemen: I suggest you do something to improve your web site. It’s truly lacking in information that might be interesting to travelers. We plan to travel up the coast and needed to inquire about things to do or see in Muskegon. There is absolutely nothing on the web site to show anything of interest except some history of improvements, etc, and this certainly wouldn’t merit a day in your city. It appears that you think Muskegon is totally boring. Surely in a city of this size there is someone who can design a web site with pictures and info which is interesting enough to make Muskegon seem at least minimally attractive. I clicked on “Events,” and even there nothing at all came up. If you care about your city, it would be wise to “get with it.”

Great – thank you for fixing the spelling (officials) – easy typo but I hate to see it on a page like this:)

I am looking to have my daughters first birthday party at one of the pavilions provided in August. I was wondering if you had to reserve them somehow or if it was a first come first serve basis. If I need to reserve them how do I do it and does it cost anything….if so how much?

    Thank you for your time,
    Proud Mommy

  15. Robert says:

What is your hours of operation? Are you open on Fridays? Seems like I could find it on this website, it is not easily accessible.

  16. Mike says:

How about a PDF download or summary page by month with things to do in the area? Your calendar of events only includes city console planning events. What about people visiting your city what are things for them to do? Thanks,

    Mike.

  17. David Hudelson says:

Hi, just wanted to ask if you could update your website to hold my, or I’m sure other people’s bank account # so I didn’t have to enter it every time I pay my water bill.
    Thanks, David Hudelson

Where is the link to job openings? I think I have clicked on every link on here and still do not find any for current job openings with the city?

I missed the art fair due to having to be out of town. You have a vendor that is there every year that sells beautiful tie dyed dresses. She has a web site but I need her name in order to send her email about buying a new tie dyed dress. Could you give me that information PLEASE!!!!!

    • Alan says:

You might be referring to the Artisans weekend of Muskegon Summer Celebration. If you, then there are 2 distinct areas where you are liklely thinking of. The Art in the Park or the Village Craft Market. There is usually a tye dye vendor that is part of the Village Craft market on the corner of 4th and Clay.

I have a large blue spruce in my front yard and are planning on cutting it down this year. Last year I recall seeing an ad in the paper for a donated tree i believe was for hackley park, do you know who this was? Any one interested in a donated outdoor tree, please contact me. YOU CUT. Would rather see it go for a good cause, then to just go to the dump.

  22. Julie says:

I can’t seem to find any informaion on here, but just wondering how friendly city parks are for dogs – I know the beach has a specified area, but what about Hackley Park for example?
