Paper Yard Waste Bags
Why Are We Using Them?
Paper bags are compostable. Plastic bags are not. Composting
has
become the most viable alternative for yard waste disposal as a result of
these two important laws passed by the Michigan State Legislature:
PUBLIC ACT 264 "YARD WASTE BAN": Effective March 28, 1995
yard
waste, grass clippings, leaves and small brush can no longer be
disposed of in a landfill.
PUBLIC ACT 267: Prohibits open burning of yard waste in communities
with a population greater than 7,500.
Every community is searching for the best alternative to managing yard
waste for their particular circumstances. What is true for everyone is
that
the Yard Waste ban will mean changes, and it will affect you.
Remember, the ban was initiated to reduce tonnage entering the landfills
and to recycle organic material. This is a benefit to your community.
